New York detectives Frank Keller and Teri Sherman, who are assigned to investigate several murders, are the protagonists of this suspenseful thriller, which is both a love story and a drama. All of the murdered were men, all were shot, all were caught dead in bed to the sound of the song Sea of Love, and all took out a verse ad in the personals section of a singles magazine.
In order to find the murderer, Frank and Teri pose as lonely men and take out a similar advert in the hope that it will lead them to a clue. They hear from several women and among them is Helen, a blonde shoe saleswoman, a passionate lover and devoted single mother of a little girl. And Frank Keller, a seasoned detective with twenty years of experience who never lets his guard down even in his off hours, falls in love with her.
With one failed marriage under his belt, he doesn't believe Helen could be a cold-blooded killer. Only Helen has a collection of old records at home, including the Sea of Love that Keller found at one of the victims' house, plus the names of the men who were victims of the unknown killer, or rather murderess, marked on her refrigerator. And so Frank Keller is forced to wage a cruel internal struggle, with love on one side and the warning of his self-preservation instinct on the other...
