Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) nearly dies in a dust storm during a mission to Mars. The rest of his crew left the planet thinking they were dead. But Watney survived and finds himself accidentally alone on a hostile planet.
With only meager supplies at his disposal, he must use all his wits, inventiveness and technical expertise to not only survive, but also find a way to send a signal to Earth that he is alive.
The moment he succeeds, millions of miles away, NASA and an international team of scientists begin working tirelessly to bring this "Martian" home. While his crew members simultaneously prove their mettle on a near-impossible rescue mission...
