If Bridget Jones were looking for an even more desperate woman than herself, she would surely hit the mark in Kate (Emilia Clarke). The girl may look like a cute little bottom, but she's actually a magnet for bad decisions of all kinds - she doesn't get along with her own family, she doesn't know herself, she can't find a normal guy, and she works in a Christmas store.
This is evident by the fact that she walks around in an asexual elf costume, her jingle bells are constantly jingling and George Michael's Christmas hit "Last Christmas" is always playing in her head. Yet exactly a year ago, she was teetering between life and death when she underwent a very complicated operation. You'd think she'd appreciate the "second chance" more, but Kate clearly doesn't care. She blatantly disregards everything and everyone and navigates through life with the path of least resistance.
But then she meets Tom (Henry Golding), a somewhat mysterious young man who starts to get more and more in the way of her life. And although Kate is determined to carry on with her current lifestyle, the influence of this boy, the Christmas atmosphere and magical London quickly begins to melt her precocious heart...
