Their task is to entertain the crowds, but contrary to the Capitol’s expectations, Katniss and her story inspire rebellion. BEAUTIFUL CREATURES (2013)
Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich) is a lifelong loser. After his mother’s premature death, he effectively lost his father as well, as the grieving man withdrew into himself and seemed to forget his son existed. On top of that, he lives in a backwater called Gatlin County, where every day is the same and unbearably dull. Ethan sums it up best: „Nothing ever happens in Gatlin. It’s the most boring hole on earth. At least that’s what I used to think. Turns out I was damn wrong…“ Ethan’s outlook changes dramatically thanks to a new classmate, the beautiful and mysterious dark-haired Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert). What fascinates him most is the feeling that he already knows her — she has appeared in his dreams again and again. Lena won’t have an easy time in Gatlin, where locals look down on every „stranger“. And since she is the niece of the town’s eccentric Macon Ravenwood (Jeremy Irons), their hostility is almost tangible. Lena ignores their resentment because she faces a far greater burden. She and her relatives are Casters, powerful beings with extraordinary abilities. A dark curse hangs over Lena, and she has only seventy-five days left until the moment that will decide her fate: either she will be strong enough for her powers to turn toward the light, or the forces of darkness will claim her and she will become a priestess of evil like her mother, Sarafine (Emma Thompson). In her desperation, she finds help where she least expects it — in a mortal named Ethan, who is willing to defend her even at the cost of his own life. Can the power of love withstand the mighty magic that circles above them both?
