- Description
One of the unforgettable comedies of the 1960s, the story of a famous forger of paintings, his beautiful daughter and a thief who is not what he seems, and where everything revolves around Cellini's Venus statue. The forger, and a brilliant one at that, is the elegant Parisian Charles Bonnet, who often offers rare works of art to art galleries, his daughter the charming Nicole, trying to prevent her father's dishonour, and the thief the sympathetic Simon Dermott, really a detective, a specialist in art world crimes...
It all begins when Bonnet is persuaded to lend and display Cellini's Venus. But before signing the insurance policy, the work is to be professionally examined. This would reveal the truth, for the Venus is also a fake. Nicole decides to steal the statue from the museum before that happens. She enlists the help of Simon, whom she has caught at her father's mansion and believes to be the thief. In reality, Simon is a detective, a specialist in crimes in the art world...
