Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield) is an extraordinary boy who, after his father’s death, lives in a Paris train station with his alcoholic uncle, the station’s clock keeper. From his father, Hugo inherited not only a brilliant mind but also a mysterious automaton with a heart-shaped keyhole – a robot that may come to life if the right key is found, delivering a message from his father. At least, that’s what Hugo hopes. His unstoppable curiosity leads him to a grumpy toy shop owner (Ben Kingsley) and his goddaughter (Chloë Grace Moretz), who—unbelievably—holds the key to unraveling the greatest mystery of Hugo’s life. How did she get it? What secret is her adoptive grandfather hiding that no one dares to speak of? Does the automaton truly contain a message from Hugo’s father? And can Hugo solve the mystery before the long arm of the law—in the form of a strict station inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen)—catches up with him and sends him to an orphanage?
