Under the command of Captain Marc Ramius (Sean Connery), the super-modern Soviet nuclear submarine Red October heads for the shores of the United States. The U.S. government fears that Ramius will attack, but a CIA analyst (Alec Baldwin) takes a different view: he believes he is about to emigrate. But he has only a few hours to find the captain and prove it - for the Soviet naval and air forces are also searching for the submarine. The hunt is on!
