Now teenagers, Harry, Ron and Hermione enter their third year at Hogwarts, where they are forced to face an escaped prisoner named Sirius Black, who poses a great threat to Harry. Meanwhile, at school, Harry and his friends learn how to control a magical hippogriff - half horse and half eagle, chase away shape-shifting boogers, and hone their clairvoyance skills. They also visit the witches' village of Piggy and the Snoring Hut, considered the most haunted house in all of Britain. To make matters worse, Harry has to deal with the brainiacs who drain people's souls, outwit a dangerous werewolf, and finally come to terms with the truth about Sirius Black and his relationship with Harry's parents...
