- Description
In the month that would have marked the 80th birthday of singer Hana Zagorová (6 September 1946 – 26 August 2022), a new compilation has been released, offering a careful examination of her career from four key perspectives. Luboš Kříž, who curated the selection, was able to draw on his many personal encounters with Ms Zagorová, the dozens of performances he had seen and the hundreds of songs he had listened to. He selected a fitting 80 tracks for the 4CD set, whilst 26 made it onto the 2LP set. They are divided into the sections ‘Concert Hits’, ‘Personal Favourites’, ‘Disco Fun’ and ‘Unfairly Forgotten’. As the titles themselves suggest, you are presented with sets of songs: 1. those tried and tested on stage; 2. those featuring Czech lyrics written by the singer herself; 3. those that make you want to dance; and 4. those which, for various reasons, never quite made it to fame, even though they undoubtedly deserved to. It is a stylistically very diverse collection, capturing Hana Zagorová in recordings from 1968 to 2020 – in fact, spanning her entire officially documented career, from her beat music beginnings in Ostrava through dozens of major hits to genre-defying songs with Štefan Margita. Let yourself be captivated by the combination of the singer’s extraordinary personal charm and distinctive artistic individuality, highlighted on the cover by photographs by Lucie Robinson.
