Godzilla, a mutant monster of gigantic proportions, has emerged from the depths of the ocean to turn New York and other world cities into piles of rubble. The United States military is helpless, and the rescue of humanity ultimately rests on the shoulders of a young scientist, Nick Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick), who warned long ago of the emergence of a similar monster, and a charismatic investigator named Philippe Roaché (Jean Reno).
There's really no time to waste, as Godzilla not only destroys whatever comes its way, but may be about to bring forth a little "godzillata". This must not happen, because then the end of human civilization will come...
