The story of Dunkirk, directed by Christopher Nolan, unfolds gradually on land, sea and air, following the fate of several hundred thousand British and Allied soldiers under enemy encirclement on the beaches of Dunkirk. The defenceless men below are protected by Royal Air Force Spitfires as they engage the enemy in the skies.
