Stanley Kubrick's black comedy is about a group of paranoid generals fascinated by war who "accidentally" manage to unleash a nuclear apocalypse. Chief of Staff "Buck" Turgidson and Strategic Air Command General Jack Ripper send a squadron of bombers to attack the Soviet Union. This activates a Soviet secret weapon called the "doomsday bomb." This is a diabolical missile system with which to retaliate. To draw attention to this disaster, British Captain Lionel Mandrake becomes the only person with access to General Ripper. In an attempt to avert disaster, American President Muffley attempts to convince the drunken Soviet Premier that it's all just a silly mistake.
