The film follows the plot of the film The Shining (Stanley Kubrick) describing the horrific events that took place 40 years ago at the Overlook Hotel. Now an adult, Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) struggles to come to terms with his horrific experience at the hotel and find peace of mind.
But everything changes the moment he meets Abra, a plucky young girl gifted with extraordinary extra-sensory abilities known as "enlightenment". Abra instinctively senses that Dan has the same mysterious talents as she does and turns to him with a desperate plea for help.
For the ruthless entity Rose and her followers draw their energy from the "enlightenment" of other innocent children, and are determined to do anything to achieve their immortality. The disparate duo join forces to engage Rose in a ruthless fight to the death...
