Awakenings - DVD

An enthusiastic and somewhat unconventional doctor attempts to cure patients who, after suffering from encephalitis, have been left motionless and seemingly without thought. At the Bainbridge Hospital in the Bronx, the reclusive researcher Dr. Malcolm Sayer tries to uncover why a group of patients, including Leonard Lowe, have remained in a catatonic state for years. The doctor is convinced that these “human statues” may be fully conscious on the inside. It is up to him to find a way to awaken Leonard and other similar patients, bringing them back to life and allowing them to once again experience joy and pain. Along the way, he also heals himself, discovering room in his heart for love and friendship.
