In his film, director Steven Soderbergh opens the door to the world of male strippers. The film is inspired by Channing Tatum's experiences as a stripper and his dreams of becoming an actor. However, Tatum does not play himself in the film, but his older mentor Mike. His character is played by Alex Pettyfer. Matthew McConaughey is seen as Dallas, a retired stripper and current owner of the club where Mike and his student perform.
