Anthropoid is based on the extraordinary true story of the World War II military operation to assassinate SS Oberruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich. Heydrich was the third most important man in the Third Reich after Hitler and Himmler, the main architect of the Final Solution and the leader of the Nazi occupation forces in Czechoslovakia. The murderous and brutal reign of this man, nicknamed the "Butcher of Prague", prompted the Allied forces in London to plan a top-secret mission, code-named Operation Anthropoid, which was to go down in history forever...

The film follows the fate of two Czech Foreign Resistance soldiers, Josef Gabcik (Cillian Murphy) and Jan Kubiš (Jamie Dornan), as they make a landing in their occupied homeland in December 1941. Equipped with only limited information and minimal equipment, they must figure out a way to assassinate Heydrich, the man many see as Hitler's natural successor and heir apparent, in a Nazi-occupied and closed city...
