Famous director Steven Spielberg presents his outstanding film, produced by DreamWorks Pictures, “Amistad”, starring Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins, Djimon Hounsou, and Matthew McConaughey. The film’s qualities were recognized with four Oscar nominations: Best Supporting Actor (Hopkins), Best Music, Best Costume Design, and Best Cinematography. Based on true events, the film tells the dramatic story of a group of captured Africans, forcibly taken from their homeland, who in the 1830s revolted and overcame the crew of the Spanish slave ship La Amistad. However, near the shores of the United States, the rebels are captured and imprisoned, and only a nearly two-year-long court case proves their innocence. The historical drama focuses on the gripping confrontation between the suffering black prisoners, bewildered by their fate, and the American legal system. On the side of the kidnapped men and women stand only a few Americans, but with their help, they manage to secure one of the most fundamental human rights for the captives – freedom.
