The world of the distant future is not an ideal place to live in, yet there are people living there who selflessly help others. For example, cyberdoctor Ido (Christoph Waltz) scours through landfills to find working parts that he can implant into people who have lost body parts. That's how he discovers Alita (Rosa Salazar), a damaged cyborg with the heart and soul of a teenage girl, and brings her back to life.
When she wakes up, Alita knows nothing. She doesn't remember her past, she doesn't recognize the world around her, but she immediately soaks up a plethora of new information. Alita is introduced to the life of her peers by Hugo (Keean Johnson), a young rebel with a motorcycle, who impresses her from the first time they meet. Through her curiosity, Alita also learns about the downside of Iron City, where she and Dr. Ido live.
Through a physical confrontation with the local underworld, she discovers extraordinary, deadly abilities within herself. At that moment, she comes into the crosshairs of a group of assassins who have been terrorizing the city, but have now been given one mission - to find and destroy Alita.
