Ronin is a samurai who has lost his master and thus his honour, and his position on the social ladder of medieval Japan corresponds to this. But much lower still are the mixed-race people, including the foundling Kai (Keanu Reeves), part British, part Japanese. His extraordinary abilities put him at the mercy of a group of former samurai whose master has fallen victim to a plot hatched by the insidious Lord Kira and the sorceress Mizuki.
The ronin want to defeat Lord Kira at any cost, but the cards are definitely not on their side. Until they get Kai. Even so, the road to just retribution will be a thorny one, and few of them will follow it to the end, which, in keeping with Japanese tradition, may have a very bitter taste...
