The huge audience success of the 1981 action sci-fi thriller Escape from New York (which never played in our cinemas but was one of the most popular video hits soon after the revolution) inspired its director John Carpenter to make Escape from L.A. fifteen years later. He used a very similar plot and just moved from the east to the west coast of the United States. In 2013, after a major earthquake, Los Angeles is an island that is not part of the new United States. It serves as a giant prison for all the individuals who have been expelled from the country, which has become a police state in reaction against the rising violence and declining morality. Here again, the one-eyed hero of the first film, Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), is sent on an almost hopeless mission. He is to retrieve a black case controlling satellite power distribution systems that has been brought to the island by the rebellious president's daughter. As a special incentive, he gets a virus in his blood that, without an antidote, will kill him within ten hours...
