And what happens when we thwart them, even unknowingly? The ambitious thriller The Keepers of Fate, based on a short story by Philip K. Dick suggests that the world can be a place where chance has no place and the fate of people is played with by men in hats. We meet up-and-coming politician David Norris (Matt Damon) on a day that could change his life. The US Senate candidate is about to learn the results of the election. Initial forecasts are not very favourable, so he retires to the men's room to practice his "loser's speech". In a place where few would expect a woman, he runs into the beautiful Elise (Emily Blunt), a girl with whom he meets the proverbial love at first sight.
It could be a band-aid for political failure, only David has lost her phone number somewhere. Giving up hope of ever seeing her again, he bumps into her by chance on the bus. He's not gonna let this chance go for anything. That's what he thinks until he meets the Keeper of Destiny. This organization runs everyone's life and has planned a career for David that may end in the Oval Office of the White House. But then he'd have to leave Elise alone, which David doesn't want to do. But this isn't a question of wanting. The stewards of fate have tuned into David's life and are ready to nip any deviation in the bud. But the politician in love does not admit that his existence and non-existence are at stake, and that there is no escaping his own destiny and its administrators. Or very difficult.
