Absolute outsider Sean Boswell sees illegal car racing as the only way to escape the harsh reality of a world laced with conventions and nonsensical bans. But in doing so, he antagonises a number of official authorities who want to send him to jail after one very unpleasant crash. To avoid this unpleasantness, Sean goes to Tokyo to live with a relative.
But here he feels even worse, because his biggest hobby is being taken away from him. But then he enters the world of drifters, devotees of a special kind of automotive discipline characterised by smoke from burning tyres, and the mood and the problems are back. Unfortunately, several times more than he had at home. The price of losing to Tokyo's drift champion, who also has ties to the Japanese Yakuza mafia, is too high. And it's underscored by the fact that Sean has a crush on his girlfriend. The streets of Tokyo are about to get very hot.
