The case for the aspiring executioner is an original mixture of absurdity, black humour, symbols, satire, irony and grotesqueness. Lemuel Gulliver finds himself in the mysterious region of Balnibarbi, whose capital Laputa has been floating in the air for ages without the Balnibarbarians knowing it.
Gulliver reaches Laputa through a long chimney and returns to Balnibarbi to tell everyone the truth. But his revelation takes away the ideals of the people. They do not want to know the truth; they cannot bear to think that they live in an embarrassing deception, in a pathetic lie, in the servitude of a false myth, in abject ignorance and darkness, in an unhappy and forgotten corner of the world.
Gulliver's last words in the film are "I said, Listen, Vyskochi, is the clock going back, or am I dreaming? But he objects, what have you still got, isn't it enough that you hear it ticking?" This last film by the brilliant, prematurely deceased filmmaker met with incomprehension from the normalizers after its release and ended up in the vault...
