Looking for a quiet place to write his new novel, writer Jack Torrance accepts an offer to be the manager of a remote mountain hotel. During his initial interview, he learns, among other things, the horrific story of his predecessor, who went mad from loneliness and isolation and murdered his wife and two daughters... Upon arrival, Jack settles his family in and begins writing a book. But he soon finds that loneliness in the middle of the mountains is oppressive, and he too begins to lose his mind...
