Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) nearly dies in a dust storm during a mission to Mars. The rest of his crew left the planet thinking they were dead. But Watney survived and finds himself accidentally alone on a hostile planet. With only meager supplies at his disposal, he must use all his wits, inventiveness and technical expertise to not only survive, but also find a way to send a signal to Earth that he is alive.
