The truth can set a man free - but it can also get him into a lot of trouble. The star of the film is Fletcher Reed, a successful attorney who has based his career and personal life on constant lying.
But when his five-year-old son, Mac, who is once again celebrating his birthday without his dad, magically wishes his father hadn't lied for just one day before blowing out the candles, his plea is answered.
Against his will, the only words that come out of Fletcher's mouth are the truth, and they make life very difficult for the hitherto incurable liar...
