The heroine of the film Love of a Single Maiden is a young blonde Andula. She lives in a boarding school in a small Central Bohemian town where there are ten women for every one man - and most of them are married anyway. Like most of their friends, Andula longs for a little simple human love. She is inexperienced, easily believing promises and flattery. She spends an awkward evening in the company of three obsolete pawnbrokers and almost succumbs to one of them - Vacovsky. Until finally the right one appears - the young pianist Milda. After spending the night with him, she is convinced that he is the one. She sets off to Prague to find her love. When she meets the boy's parents, she discovers that everything is different.
