Alex Whitman, an ambitious manager of a casino and nightclub company, is sent to Las Vegas to oversee a new contract. He meets a charming Mexican girl, Isabel Fuentes, in a small tavern and spends the night with her. In the morning, however, the girl disappears before Alex wakes up. She reappears three months later, just as Alex is in the middle of an important meeting, and tells him that she is pregnant. When she leaves, Alex goes to see her and promises to go with her to see her family, because Isabel is afraid of her father. After an arduous visit, filled with numerous relatives, Alex proposes to Isabel and they immediately head to the ceremony hall. Shortly after the wedding, first Isabel's furious father arrives and then the rest of the relatives. Her dog also shows up, which Alex doesn't like at all. The couple have their first argument when it turns out that while Alex wants to return to New York, Isabel refuses to leave Las Vegas. The couple get used to living together and try to reconcile their different habits, opinions and approach to life. Further complications arise when Alex's snobbish parents arrive and make no secret of their displeasure at their son's choice of partner. The Whitmans' introduction to the Fuenteses ends in an argument. After another argument, Isabel ends up in the hospital. When Alex visits her, she rejects him, tells him that she had a miscarriage, and leaves for her great-grandmother's without saying goodbye. Alex is homesick and it doesn't help his mood when he receives a notice of divorce proceedings. All seems lost...
