Twenty-year-old Melanie Stryder knows very well that the thread of fate is very thin and can break at any time. In the near future, when invisible parasites settle on our planet, which, once implanted in the human body, can control the human mind, Melanie and the other survivors manage to escape to a secret hideout where they begin to survive the hard times in a modest way. One day, however, Melanie unluckily falls into the clutches of the parasite-ridden humans, who also implant a parasite into her body - an experienced Wanderer, for whom Melanie's body now becomes a host... However, since the Handmaiden has no idea how powerful and armored Melanie's mind is, she fails to completely control her. And so the Handmaiden must unwittingly live in Melanie's body only "half" and experience many difficult situations with her.
