An affectionate, prejudice-free black comedy about life, love and death from director Hal Ashby. What happens when the fates of a sullen young man who spends most of his time at strangers' funerals and a vital octogenarian intersect? Harold is a 20-year-old obsessed with thoughts of death. Maude is a seventy-nine year old woman obsessed with her zest for life. These two outsiders have nothing in common at first glance, yet they may just make the perfect couple.

The original humor and kind message of this story of love and death found resonance much later, and today it is one of the most popular films of New Hollywood. The atmosphere of the film is enhanced by the songs of Cat Stevens...
