The first Star Wars was unique because of its special effects. They led director George Lucas to found a brand new trickster company, Industrial Light and Magic. The first episode, A New Hope (now categorized as the fourth), was filmed on a shoestring, but the response from audiences was overwhelming. The next two episodes, the fifth and sixth, could have been made at a higher cost and with even better effects. In 1997, Lucas had the first three old episodes digitally remastered and added previously unused scenes. This remastering made the whole series look even better and removed some of the flaws caused by the old trick technique. After the remastering, Lucas decided to make another Star Wars series. However, he placed it before the previous three episodes in terms of storyline. The first film, The Hidden Menace, was released in theaters in June 1999 and was a great success, although critics pointed out the film's considerable childishness. Thanks to computer technology, all the new effects are completely realistic. The last of the films, Revenge of the Sith, was released in June (2005).
