The desire to fulfill our life's dream is the driving force behind almost all of us. But not just anyone has the kind of drive that Michael Edwards (Taron Egerton) has had since childhood. His desire is seemingly simple and straightforward: To become an Olympian and represent Great Britain at some Olympics in some sport, pretty much any sport. And so little Michael tries out many different athletic events to reassure himself and those around him of his lack of any athletic talent in sports that would allow him to participate in the Summer Olympics.

He will therefore concentrate on the Winter Games. But he hasn't had much luck or talent in downhill skiing either. Most people would have given up a long time ago, but Michael is no such wimp. His last chance is ski jumping, largely because there aren't many ski jumpers in Britain with Olympic ambitions. In fact, there aren't any. He decides to learn from the best, so he leaves his home country and heads to the Alps on his own. He watches the jumpers in action for a while, then gets on the hill and takes off. After a few painful falls, he realizes he can't do it without a coach.

That is, if he wants to make the Olympics and if he wants to stay alive. Enter Bronson Peary (Hugh Jackman), a winter resort janitor, a bully and a drinker, but also a former ski jumper who was once banned from the US Olympic team. Bronson takes the stubborn and insistent loner-jumper under his wing and begins to teach him not only how to ski jump, but also how to survive ski jumping. Gradually, he learns about Michael's determination and indomitable will, and together they are able to achieve a big dream. In 1988 in Calgary, Michael will go down in Olympic history as the unforgettable "Eddie the Eagle"...
