Before he became Dracula, he was Vlad III, ruler of a small country called Transylvania, which crouched in the shadow of the mighty Ottoman Empire. He knew well that any resistance to his powerful neighbour would spell his end. But when the Sultan "asks" him to send a thousand boys, including his own son, as fresh recruits for his army, he decides not to comply. To defeat evil and avert the inevitable, he joins with a much greater evil. He becomes Dracula.
